A High Court judge has ruled the government’s decision to house asylum seekers in the disused Napier military barracks was unlawful.

In a damning verdict, the judge found that asylum seekers were unlawfully detained in appalling, crowded conditions. This was against all COVID guidance and Priti Patel had full knowledge that it would cause an outbreak. The judge found she ignored the “risks of Covid-19 infection and death or injury from fire” by sending people there.
