If you meet all the requirements, you should be given a partner visa on the 5-year route rather than the 10-year route. Once Indefinite Leave to Remain(ILR) is granted, the applicant will no longer need their sponsor to stay in the UK.
Yes, you would be able to extend your visa for 30 months (2.5 years) at a time, as long as you meet the requirements. You will have to get your visa extended at least once if you want to stay in UK as a partner or spouse after 60 months. You might also need to extend if, after 5 years, you still don’t meet all of the requirements for settlement. For example, you might not speak English well enough or fail the “Life in the UK” test.
